In the art of Giron Arnis Escrima, abanico style refers to a bolo-knife defense that – with the flick of the wrist – avoids blows or thrusts coming from the front.
This is one of the quickest moves used to deflect an attack, allowing the defender time to reposition himself into a more favorable location or posture.
Counterattack is included, with an emphasis on the tip of your weapon for maximum power in short, powerful ranges of attack.
In many cases shifting the body weight laterally from side to side during the movement is necessary to perform the fanny style.
