Joint Manipulation, a component within its Four Divisions of study, Wae Gong (External Force), involves utilizing the joints of the human anatomy. By applying angles and force correctly, an opponent can be controlled through pain/pressure compliance.

While it’s relatively easy for a person to enhance muscle strength, strengthening the ligaments and tendons connecting bones and muscles is challenging. Hence, joint manipulation, when executed accurately, can prove highly effective with minimal force and effort.

This method not only offers an effective means of control but also serves as a non-lethal way to deter an aggressor without causing severe harm. Hwa Rang Do® boasts a wide array of joint manipulation techniques suitable for various types of attacks (both unarmed and armed), grabs, and holds. These techniques enable practitioners to control, subdue, take down, and incapacitate aggressors for self-defense, law enforcement, and military purposes.

Volume 1 of the series focuses on the C-Lock technique applied against five common attacks: Punch, Push, Lapel Grab, Wrist Grab, and Back Shoulder Grab. It also covers Ground C-Lock and Dynamic Practice, specifically addressing situations like rear shoulder grabs.
