A comprehensive learning system for Hapkido practitioners, from beginners to advanced levels, is presented in this DVD. But what exactly is Hapkido? It combines the meanings of its components: “HAP” signifies gathering and concentration, “KI” represents life energy, and it encompasses creating a path and its intersections. In essence, Hapkido comprises a range of techniques and knowledge focused on controlling the body’s joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles—a method known as “the path of uniting energies.” This system includes techniques such as breathing and blood chokes, as well as direct attacks on vital points, forming a complete and efficient defense system.

Hapkido, as we know it today, took shape in the mid-20th century, thanks to Master Choi Yong-Sool. It evolved through the fusion of the samurai’s Yamara (Daito Ryu School of Master Takeda) and Korean Bi-Sool techniques.

Instructor Philippe Pinerd, drawing upon his extensive experience practicing in South Korea, showcases fundamental elements of Hapkido training in this DVD. The techniques of Haki Sul are demonstrated and captured using two cameras, enhancing the ease of learning and understanding. This DVD showcases various techniques, including drops, wrist locks, joint manipulations, strikes using arms and legs, defensive maneuvers, and more.
