sinawali – Demonstrations of Sinawalis (from 5th to 3rd grade) with footwork (using closed triangles and complex patterns) – Right and left X-sinawali with transitions and footwork – Variations: – 2nd series of double sticks against standard sinawali (single, double, X) – 2 vs. 1, both right and left against standard sinawali (single, double, X)

Defense techniques (utilized in both modern and classic styles) – Blocking techniques

Modern techniques with a single stick and various combinations – Countering attacks: Abanico (2-5 strikes) – Combination moves: strike, punyo (butt), stab, and abanico (5-7 counterattacks) – 2nd series of disarming techniques (attacks with both right and left hands) – Using a stick – Using a flexible object (belt)

Empty hands 1st and 2nd disarming series with the stick held in the opposite hand

Exercises – Modern 1-1: – transitioning to karanza and back to exercise position – Switching from medium to short range (punyo (butt) 1-1) and back Tapi-Tapi: – 3 punyo (butt) techniques, (both right and left) – Reversed block fan (right and left) – Switching hands at all three distances – Initiating tackles (using all known sets) while continuing the drill

Classic arnis Classic styles and techniques – Wide stances (force against force) – Hirada batanguena – Short flaps (strikes) – Double stick: 2nd series with application and circular movements

Exercise: Classic 1-1: starts wide, moves out to karanza, and returns to 1-1 position

Karanza Free-flowing movements in karanza using arnis footwork in multiple directions, incorporating: – Stick techniques (single stick and double stick) – Free spins (including figure 8 and double zero)

Empty hands – Defensive techniques and accompanying movements – Applying the principles of the 2nd set of double sticks against: – stick attacks – empty-handed attacks – Locks (demonstrated with practical applications) – Central lock – lock center standing

Shoulder lock

Drill – Modern Drill: – incorporating high-low swing variations #1 + #2 – Shifting to the left side – Focus Glove, (Level 3): Free movement, multi-hit/kick combinations, incorporating bob and weave, blocks, and cover blocks against punches

Application with common objects (transferability) – Demonstrating techniques from this and previous levels using flexible objects (e.g., belt, cord, towel, clothing)

Self-defense – Quick releases: – against grapples and wrist punches from the attacker – Against bear hugs and chokes

Tasks – Stick attacks from above at a diagonal angle (resolving using techniques from 5th to 3rd grade) – Self-defense in situations defined by the examiner

Grandmaster Datu Dieter Knüttel

Dieter Knüttel, Master in Sport Science, serves as the Modern Arnis Chief Instructor for the German DAV and was the Modern Arnis European Representative (1996-2001) of Professor Remy A. Presas. In 1996, he was awarded the title of DATU and the rank of Lakan Anim, 6th Dan Modern Arnis by Professor Remy Presas, making him the 4th out of 6 people and the only person outside the US to receive this honor. On September 24, 2016, in Dortmund, Germany, Grandmaster Roberto Presas, 10th Dan Modern Arnis, publicly announced that Knüttel was bestowed the 10th Dan, Lakan Sampu rank. Knüttel has been actively involved in Filipino martial arts since 1978 and has conducted FMA/Modern Arnis seminars since 1980 across Europe, Australia, the USA, Russia, and even the Philippines. He stands as one of the most experienced Modern Arnis Masters in the world.
