In this exclusive video, Mitsugi Saotome Sensei – a direct student of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei – demonstrates and explains his system for using two swords at the same time. Starting with basic stances, he moves into defenses against single sword attacks, and eventually to defenses against multiple opponents.
It also illustrates the direct connection of two-sword motion to empty-handed Aikido throwing technique. Many of the demonstrations shown here were held recently for this video. The video also contains rare footage from Saotome Sensei’s 1988 Two-Sword Seminar at the Chicago Budokan.
Pleasing to the beauty and ingenuity of Saotome Sensei’s movement, this hour-long instructional video explores martial exercises to integrate and balance the body’s right and left.
