Description
This is the first of a two DVD set that covers most of the Iwama Aiki Ken and Jo Aiki curriculum ably demonstrated by Morihiro Saito, 9th dan. These ken forms were compiled and refined by Saito Sensei based on his weapons training directly under Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba during the years immediately following World War II. This video provides detailed instructions on Aiki Ken as well as demonstrations of each sword move in an easily understandable manner.
Our special for this week is the famous Aiki Ken and Jo Aiki DVD set by Morihiro Saito Sensei, 9th dan. These DVDs cover all of the basic forms of Iwama weapons from the aikdo and personal sword curriculum as taught by Saito Sensei over a period of several decades. We offer this set at a special price of R$15.00 Reais for both the ken and jo DVDs, allowing all serious practitioners to build their video libraries.
Let’s take a closer look at the contents of each of these DVDs:
Aikiken: The Aiki Ken DVD covers the 7 ken suburi, musubi ki no tachi, 5 kumitachi and henka no tachi.
AIKI JO: The Aiki Jo DVD includes the 31 jo kata, suburi 20 jo, 31 jo kumijo, 10 kumijo, and 13 jo awase.
Both discs offer you a choice of three languages in which to display the programs: Japanese, English, or French.
Who is Morihiro Saito?
Morihiro Saito Sensei (1928-2002) was one of the closest and most talented of thousands of students to Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba. He began his training at Iwama in 1946 and became one of the most highly regarded aikido teachers of the post-war generation. Saito Sensei has written over 10 technical books on aikido and held over 100 international seminars during his long career. He was known for his superb technical ability and exceptional teaching skills.
Why should you add these DVDs to your collection?
The Aiki Ken and Jo DVDs are the authoritative reference materials for Saito Sensei’s weapons system. They were shot specifically for the serious practitioner interested in learning the Ken and Jo Aiki, and include detailed explanations and different angle shots to make important details easier to understand.
Is the study of Aiki Ken and Jo important for your progress?
There are a variety of schools of thought as to whether the study of Aiki Ken and Jo is essential to developing well-rounded aikidoka. When making your personal decision, consider the following. Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba was very serious about his study of ken and jo from middle age onwards. He considered knowledge of these weapons to be a key component of “Takemusu Aiki”, the highest level of achievement in the art where one is able to spontaneously execute techniques perfectly suited to the circumstances. In addition, weapons practice strengthens the entire body, increases hip stability and an understanding of maai (combat distance). Many who have not had access to aikido weapons training have sought to fill this gap by studying various external systems such as iaido and classical Japanese weapons schools. Fortunately, Aikido does not include an elaborate weapons curriculum and these DVDs will open up a new dimension in your training. Highly recommended for every serious aikidoka!
